Brightlight is B Corp certified!

Ivan Chew, our Director of Impact, talks about why being B Corp certified is a personal milestone for him.

What is B Corp?

B Corporations are a new type of corporation that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. B Corps are for-profit companies certified by the nonprofit B Lab to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

A company must complete the comprehensive and confidential B Impact Assessment to become a Certified B Corporation. The assessment measures a company's impact on its workers, community, customers, and the environment. Companies that receive a passing score are eligible to become Certified B Corporations.

When did you first hear about B Corp?

I learned about the B Corp movement in 2018 while exploring the impact investing landscape. I was inspired by the community of businesses around the world that were using business as a force for good and committed to measuring their social and environmental performance.

This is why I am so passionate about ethical leadership and the role of businesses in society. It's not just about profit and growth; it can go much deeper. Large or small companies can operate responsibly and commit to clear social and environmental goals.

Having a third party like B Corp is a significant step forward for industries to increase standardisation and transparency in this field of certification.

Why is it important to me that Brightlight is B Corp certified?

I've gone on a journey where I've attempted to integrate my passions, talents, and experiences into my job while maintaining the values that are important to me. I want to bring my 'real self' to work daily, and Brightlight enables me to do this.

Brightlight's purpose is to transform lives, and we do this through moving capital for transformational impact. So it makes sense for us to be B Corp certified and align ourselves with other businesses with a similar purpose and vision to transform the global economy to benefit all people, communities and the planet.

It's not often employees can say that they're a part of something much bigger than themselves and their day-to-day work. I'm proud to be working for a company that is making a difference in the world, and it's exciting to see how we will continue to grow and scale our impact.
